Easy prawn gravy recipe
This is a South indian , Kerala state conventional prawn gravy recipe passed from three generation with very less ingrediants, still tastes delicious.
Ingredients:
- washed and cleaned prawns- ½ kg
- Onion -1 medium size
- Green chilly -1
- Curry leaves -1 handful
- Coriander leaves (optional)
- Chilly powder -1½ tsp
- Coriander powder -1 tsp
- Turmeric powder -¼ tsp
- Salt to taste
- Water
- Coconut oil -1 tsp
Procedure:
- turn on to medium flame , In a stewpot add cleaned and washed Prawns ,green chilly ,onion ,chilly powder , coriander powder,turmeric powder.
- add water ,such that the water should be slightly above the Prawn level
- then add chilli powder ,coriander powder ,turmeric powder ,curry leaves ,coconut oil
- add salt for taste & slow cook at medium flame with lid opened.occasionally give it a stir
- after the whole mixture comes to a gravy consistency ,add some coriander leaves ,check for salt and serve hot
Suggestions :
- use Coconut oil only for this preparation to enrich the taste .
- use more curry leaves
- Increase or decrease the chilly powder according to your spice level. you can use half of regular chilly powder and other half of Kashmiri chilli powder just to give your gravy good colour .
- check prawns are done before removing it from the stove .
- you can also avoid using coriander powder if not needed
